The Kent State Board of Visitors has voted to approve a new name for the College of Applied Science and Management (CASM), formerly known as the Kent State University College of Engineering (KSU EVET). The board recommended the new name in an item number on their May Meeting Minutes. The revised name will be officially known once all the required documents and applications have been submitted to the Board of Visitors for review and approval. It is hoped that this new name will help to attract more students to Kent State University's College of Engineering.
The Board recommended that the name caest means "science and technology", and that the names Kent State University and the Kent State University College of Engineering be changed simultaneously. The suggested names for the future college are already in the research and planning stages and should be completed by the summer of 2020. The entire project is part of the larger diversification effort at Kent State University. This diversification effort is part of the efforts to become a more globally-recognized and better-known public education and research institution.
Currently, the College of Applied Science and Management has four departments: Systems, Applications, Education and Technology. These departments currently house over one hundred students and are supported by over one hundred faculty members. Many faculty members are involved in the software applications and research that are conducted on these software applications. There is a need for more software engineers and computer software specialists to build on these programs for further development.
